I don't usually respond directly to blog comments but I would like to take this opportunity to address some of the comments about my yard. First of all, I meant no disprespect to our troops. I respect and admire anyone who has served or is currently serving in our armed forces. Having spent 25% of my first 21 years as a United States Marine (the math is for you simmons)- a year of which was spent in Vietnam, I've earned a right to have my opinion about our President - as has anyone else whether they've served or not.

A few random thoughts (as most of my thoughts have no direction)...Do you believe Kelvin Sampson will be doing any commercials for AT&T or Verizon?...I see that NBC finally moved "Friday Night Lights" to Friday night - the people making that decision may have served on a school board.

After spending 11 days at Terre Haute Regional Hospital with my wife, I ran across 4 of my former students from Dugger who were working there - 2 nurses, a lab tech, and a doctor. This shows that it doesn't matter what school they attend, students who want to prosper will. Seeing them made me proud to be a teacher. It also shows that whether or not you have kids in school, you should be concerned about what happens there because today's students will be taking care of you or your loved ones sooner than you think.

Basketball season is just around the corner... be looking for my weekly article and pre-season predictions.

Joe,

I respect your military service and teaching career. We need more people like you in America.

Best wishes to you and your wife.

It is really raining now. The yard will be fine.

Joe,

Like Jethro Bodine, I still struggle with my guzintos, so I worked diligently throughout the night. 5.25 years of service to your country as a United States Marine. I salute you. I hope Janet is doing well.

as one that lives and breaths by the condition of the weather I was quite pleased with the sprinkle we had earlier in the weekpast... and am very upset with the last 2 days, I just wish they were in the last week in July and not now.

my cousin has 5acres of yard he maintains in the Memphis suburbs. One day upon comeing to work he had a bounce in his step and a gleam in his eyes-- like Christmas. When is Colleges ask what was so great: "MY YARD DIED!" he stated with a smile..LOL

and I like my green grass JUST not from Mid-september to November and from mid-april to June :) but hey Iam selfish.

Patriot, great comment. I knew it was in there, in you with no rough edges. I am proud of everyone who writes comments about what Joe thinks is worth writing. But, like I said I am family. SilerCityDude, I like the story about the guy in Memphis, I would hate to mow in the summer in Memphis, one of my favorite cities.

And I can tell that Simmons has found a calculator, good for him/her. And it is great that Janet is doing well. Those grandkids need her around, without her the photographers would go bust.

"Those who can't do, teach, and those who can't teach, teach Art." Almost Woody Allen.

And the comment about Sampson is the best I have heard. He does seem to just love phones. It will be great to see what the fans on the road do to him.

Kelvin Sampson did not learn from the first infractions and has pushed this off again as a mistake, not as an intentional violation of the rules. If an individual will violate these rules, what else will he do just to win. You either play by the rules or you don't, it is a matter of ethics.

B ball fan,

Thank you for the compliment.

One thing I try not to do is put "rough edges" on things like...calling bloggers "braindead, idiots or phoney".

touche'

Have a great weekend!

As a Union High School alumni. It makes me glad to know that people realize that not all of us who attend a "hicktown" school end up doing nothing with our lives.

I say this as a recently graduated working Rad Tech who used to sit in your art class years ago.

Am I the only one that feels that some of these NCAA rules are really stupid? Or as the bible says Swallowing a Cammel but straining at a Knat?

and does everyone know all the silly rules how ever small they are.

I know Sampson does strech the rules but I know other coaches have as well but have not faced the rath.

It is amazing how many people justify their crimes by saying they are not the only ones. It is a poor argument for innocence to plead guilty.

SilverCityDude, "everyone does it", is not a defense. If you are getting paid over a million dollars a year, you should be smart enough to know the rules, especially if they are the same rules you broke once before. It would be like a millionarire getting a DUI, why dont they just hire a driver.
