I'm sure that "Linton Gets New Hotel" was once a headline in the local newspaper many, many years ago. Above, you can see an old advertisement for the "New Linton Hotel," which is now the The Roosevelt Mission.

Back in the day, the hotel was considered "modern" with steam heat, electric lights, and baths. And it was only $2 to $2.50 per day to stay overnight.

Boy, how amentities and prices at hotels have changed!

A city's hotel is a reflection of its view towards business... The hotel is where the business visitor gets his/her's first real impression. So everyone should stay in their hometown's hotel at least one night, then come to your own conclusion of how progressive your community is. If your business visitors stay out of town, then your town ain't got a chance.

Out of towners attending a recent training stayed in both Linton and Bloomfield. They were shocked at the low cost $43.00 a night and described their experience as clean but shabby. I'm sure they willingly would have paid more for a room that didn't have a musty smell, a dehumidifier in the center of the room and a threadbare coverlet. I've heard local residents refer people to the Comfort Inn in Sullivan, what does that suggest?

I travel about 125 nights a year. A clean, modern and not low end hotel is what Greene County needs. Something comparable to the Quality Inn in Robinson ILL, Comfort Inn at Sullivan, Holiday Inn Express at various locations is awesome. NO Super 8, Please NO Super 8's. The franchise structure is not good for privacy and room quality
