Greene County girls keg started in 1977Posted Friday, December 5, 2008, at 7:45 AM
I've had many telephone calls and people stopping me when I'm out and about offering information about the Greene County keg for boys and girls basketball.
Though I've not been able to pinpoint exactly when the boys keg started, it appears that it was either the 1952-53 season or 1953-54 season. Brad O'Neall from Bloomfield offered the name and telephone number of someone who may know, and hopefully myself or the sports department will be able to get in touch with him soon. The mystery of the girls keg has been solved, thanks to current White River Valley High School girls basketball assistant coach Brian Hostetter. This is the information he offered that is written on the keg itself: * Started by Central High School in 1977 * Built by David L. Gottsche * Painted by Robin Terhune Thanks Brian for offering the information. I'll pass along information on the boys keg (or someone from the sports department will) as soon as it is uncovered. Shakamak has the boys' keg.
WRV played Shakamak for the keg on November 22, 2008. WRV won the game so how does Shakamak have the keg ?
The girls' keg currently resides at WRV, where it belongs.
Shakamak has the keg now. It is sitting on the scorer's bench in the picture of Shakamak beating Bloomfield.
I played for the Lady Miners in 1978-1981 and we never saw the keg. I'm sure it lived in Bloomfield as they dominated girls' basketball during this time!
The boys keg was created in the 52-53 school year.
If you can obtain a copy of the 1953 Analecta (Switz City HS year book) you will find a picture of the keg on pgs 46 & 47 also on page 68 is a picture of me with the keg as it was on display in the first floor hallway at Switz City HS in 1953.
Thanks for the memories. mitchmfsr
