If you're a student and live in Bloomfield, it's not easy to find something to do this summer.

The Boys and Girls Club of Greene County officially closed earlier this year, and the swimming pool isn't open this summer.

Times are tough.

What can be done?

The Town of Bloomfield doesn't have enough money to make the needed repairs to the swimming pool, and Town Council President Eric Harrah has stated that numerous times. Town councils and city councils make tough decisions all the time. That's their job.

But that doesn't mean the pool can't be fixed. The money will just have to come from another source.

Bloomfield has the opportunity to prove again why small communities are such a great place to live and raise a family.

Someone mentioned at the town council meeting Wednesday night (July 11) about forming a committee to look into fixing the pool. That's a great idea.

The committee, though, should be comprised of a variety of people. Someone from the town council, Chamber of Commerce, and business leaders should all be appointed to the committee. More importantly, local families and their children should be a part of the committee. They're the ones who use it, and want it back.

I bet this committee -- probably the teenagers -- will come up with several ways to raise money to get the pool reopened. It probably won't happen this year, but by the time Memorial Day rolls around next year, it could be a reality.

Share your ideas with the Bloomfield Town Council, and hopefully the pool will be closed for only one summer.
