Sale of the Century!Posted Friday, February 5, 2010, at 8:07 AM
Since we are at the beginning of a new decade, it's time to start anew and challenge the old traditions. It's time to clear out the garage, unload the attic, and clean out the back bedroom. It's time to purge, clean, and scrub, and get rid of all of that unwanted stuff. And in my case and possibly yours, make room for more stuff.
Well the good news is, this year the City of Linton will be host to its Second Annual City-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 22nd. That's right, the weekend before the plethora of busy weekends that initiates summertime in Linton, our 34 Days of June. So, let's get rid of the junk before the family comes over for graduation and before you need to make room in that spare bedroom because visitors are coming for the Phil Harris Golf Tournament. Last year we had a good start and many of you participated as buyers and sellers, and even a few non-profit fundraisers. This year, we want to expand...to make it a little bigger and whole lot better, but we need your help. Attention all hoarders of junk...the time has come for you to contribute to the cause. First, talk to your neighbors and get everyone in the act....multiple sales and lots of cars equals lots of money spent. Second, start preparing now....make a pile, set aside a box, and get your marker and price tags ready. Three, talk to your community organizations, churches, youth groups, school clubs, etc... about holding a fund-raiser to maybe sell cookies, maybe wash some cars, prepare a dinner, or maybe even take donations and have your own sale. Four, consider becoming host to a relative or neighbor who lives outside of town or even rent part of your yard to someone. We would love to see everyone get involved in this event, think outside the box. The Linton Public Library is already preparing for a huge Friends of Library Booksale and will also be renting plots on their parking lot for any interested out of town guests who want to set up shop and sell some of their junk, antiques, or collectibles. But wait, that's not all. No it's not another set of knives for free, but how about we take this whole garage sale event to new level. While we are in the mode of purging our homes of the treasures that we have collected throughout our lives, let's make it a true community clean-up. Look for more information in the weeks to comeregarding a coordinated clean-up effort across the City of Linton. Maps and regional advertising will make this an event not just for locals, but for tourists alike. So sell it....sell it all! Now...don't forget to support our other neighboring communities too. If you are a lover of the junk...as I am, then don't miss Worthington, Bloomfield, and Lyons Town-Wide Yard Sale events coming later this year too. |
