What are you afraid of?

Me, I'm scared out of my mind of snakes. Just the thought of snakes -- even the smallest snake -- makes my skin crawl. When I see one on television, I cover my eyes. When I'm moving (on a riding lawn mower), I lift my legs up and scream. My husband always tells me they're more afraid of me than I am, especially when I'm riding a machine with sharp blades -- I doubt it.

I'm scared out of my mind of them. I'm really not sure how or when my fear started, but I definitely have Ophidiophobia or a fear of snakes.

I recently read an article online that cited most common phobias. They were:

Arachnophobia -- The fear of spiders

Ophidiophobia -- The fear of snakes

Acrophobia -- The fear of heights

Agoraphobia -- Fear of open spaces, leaving a safe place, or crowded public places

Cynophobia -- The fear of dogs

Astraphobia -- The fear of thunder and lightning (Also known as Brontophobia, Tonitrophobia, or Ceraunophobia

Aviophobia -- The fear of flying

Mysophobia -- The fear of germs or dirt

Necrophobia -- The fear of death or dead things

Some rare and unusual phobias I came across were:

Nephophobia -- The fear of clouds

Emetophobia -- The fear of vomiting

Bibliophobia -- The fear of books

Heliophobia -- The fear of sunlight

Kopophobia -- The fear of fatigue
