The Old Bank reopened this past weekend. Needing a local place to eat for Valentine's day, I had to go check it out.

Our waitress, bringing our drinks, took our order, appetizer and main course at the same time. First came our salads. They were nice and cold, consisting of lettuce, carrot, and radishes. Next came the appetizers. We ordered calamari and mozzarella cheese sticks. While both came out very hot with sides of marinara, I thought the cheese sticks could have came out on a smaller plate. Our waitress bobbled the plate a little and the cheese sticks shifted from their original place the chef put them.

For the main course, my wife ordered the "Hearts" Fire Bistro Steak Filet with Fried Shrimp. It came out sitting on two onion rings which were sitting on garlic mashed red skin potatoes. On top of it all was a stuffed mushroom. All tasted great, with the potatoes and shrimp being my favorites. The garlic mash had the perfect flavor. The shrimp had a unique breading on them that I liken to Panko bread crumbs.

I ordered the center-cut Ribeye with Baked Potato. Both were very good. The steak had a great flavor and came out the perfect medium-rare I always order.

The were only two minor problems. I was brought a Diet Coke as a refill on my Coke and there was not a pen to write in my tip when they brought out the check. Both were immediately corrected.

The new menu is much smaller than its predecessor. The lack of pasta dishes are fine, but please bring back the French Onion Soup.

OK Matt, lets have some facts... who's running the old bank? and who's the chef? And why no interview with the owner? plans for the future? etc etc...

MS, normal Old Bank prices.

Well Dairyman, I am not a reporter/journalist, I am only blogging of my experience of the restaurant.

The ownership is back to Jerry and Gayle for now. Thought I have heard they have some people interested in buying it from them now.

Hi,For those that may log on and want to know straight from the horse's(owner's)mouth, here goes.

Jerry & I have been blessed to once again be responsible for re-opening The Old Bank. It is bitter sweet since the previous owner who was buying it on a land contract decided, after nearly,(one month shy)of four years to close and leave. We had hoped it would not happen like it did but it did.

We had minimal notice when this occured--hence, the reason for closing. We had to get some things straightened out and are now going into it on weekends only. Friday & Saturday evenings serving dinner from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

What's to interview? It's us, and you all know what we do. We run restaurants. Jerry is cooking for the most part with assistance from two gentlemen by the names of Jim Gibson and Jeremy Stinebaugh. Both young men have attended or are attending culinary schools. We do hope to resell the restaurant so it can better serve the community. We are unable to do any more at this time with the exception of some special events and Wednesday Rotary meetings.

Pasta was deleted from the menu the first weekend because I forgot to include it. Totally my fault.Matt you will be interested to know that the French Onion Soup is back and very popular. The cheesesticks were served on the wrongplate and that has changed as well. Quite possibly because we are still working with a new and fresh staff we have some things to work out. Give us time, we've only been open 6 days all together. Prices remain as close to the previous menu with some exceptions. We have to take in to account the current market pricing on food and beverages. As many of you know, we can't go back to 1998 prices--not yet.

With that Jerry & I would like to thank everyone who has graced our restaurant with your visits. To those that have had an issue with seating, I will apologize. We seat 105 and we only have a total of 11 booths--someone has to sit at a table from time to time. I do not promise a booth to anyone unless they call and reserve it ahead of time. Reservations are a sore point with some. If you want to have a table (or booth) it is recommended. If you come in and it's a full house...expect to wait or come back another time. This weekend was very busy and we had several employees call out sick. We are very sorry to those that turned away and left. My staff was maxed out and I had no reserves to call in. As it was we had our neighborhood of friends assisting where they could. Our deepest thanks to all of them for helping.
