Pleasantly Surprised

It was not my family's pizza restaurant of choice growing up. I hadn't eaten there for years. A commenter on my last blog http://gcdailyworld.com/blogs/1159/entry... kept singing its praises, but how was I to know? Well there was only one way to find out. I had to try Pizza City again for myself. So with great discretion, I entered the restaurant.
Upon entering, I immediately noticed the cleanliness. There was not a speck on the floor, and every table was in perfect order. Next I noticed that the walls have sports memorabilia on them. Everything from our local high school teams to colleges and professional sports. My wife pointed out a nice little children's corner with some toys to help keep their attention.
After we chose our table, our waitress took our drink orders and brought out menus. After scanning our menus I decided to get the lasagna which comes with garlic bread and a side salad. My wife chose the buffet so it would be easier to find our daughter something to eat. I also ordered some mozzarella sticks as an appetizer.
My salad came out first and I was very impressed. It had the perfect mixture and amounts of lettuce, tomato, green bell pepper, onion, and cheese. My wife returned to the table with a salad for her from the salad bar. She remarked at how amazed she was that the salad bar could be so clean and look so fresh with that nice of a selection. Next, an unheard of six mozzarella sticks came out nice and hot with a cup of marinara on the side. At first, I was disappointed that the marinara was cold, but changed my mind when I realized how wonderful the hot cheese and cold tomato sauce could be.
A couple of minutes after I finished my salad and share of cheese sticks the lasagna arrived. Without even cutting into the large portion I could see the steam dancing above my plate. The garlic bread came out in two large slices. Approximately the size of what you would get anywhere else as an appetizer. My lasagna was delicious. It had the right amount of sauce and cheese between each layer of noodles. The top layer of cheese was so melty, I had to use a piece of garlic bread to help get it all on the fork.
Don't tell the manager, but I did have a couple of bites from my wife's pizza and garlic breadsticks. While the garlic breadsticks were good, I thought the pizza was just okay. I am sure it would be better if it was made to order. My daughter took a liking to the tater tot's that was on the buffet. I decided to try one and see why. Just right, like mom used to bake.
I was expecting one thing and found the other from my dinner at Pizza City. Give it a try again. It might be in the same building, but the food seems so new.
I was pleasantly surprised. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Way to go Matt, If everyone would just try they might find out that there are good eats other than fast food, and Pizza City has a good family atmosphere. Did you check out the game room? Great for parties. We have had many there. I'm not saying there are not other good places in town or even Greene Co. But Linton does'nt need a nother Pizza Shop. Let's take care of the one's we do have. Most of them are just our own local people trying to make a living.
I'm sure it's just because we're in Linton and they don't get enough business to keep it up to date... but it's a sad excuse for a game room. It's more like a party room with a few antiquated arcade games and an air hockey table.
Nothing else in town comes close to it though :(
Where is the Pizza City located?
Pizza City is on hwy 54 east, in Linton Big red sign. Try it
If I'm eating pizza in Linton I stick to the Goosepond. I did stop at the Double Dog when I was in town on Friday and I really enjoyed my meal there.
I love the Pizza City in Terre Haute, but our Pizza City is just lacking something. I haven't had their salad bar, but I'll have to try it sometime.
It's the only place that delivers anything in Linton as far as I know. It seems like a good opportunity for another establishment to deliver food, even if they have to add a delivery surcharge to the price.
I don't know what all the fluffs about. I just ate a pizza that Pizza City delivered and it was just great. There were enough toppings to my taste. I am satisfied every time I order.
Yes, Old Bank tried it for a few weeks, but didn't stick with it long enough to see any results in my opinion. Now, they're shut up for lunch completely. I tried eating there the other day for lunch. Not sure what they're thinking on that decision.
You can't even have a beer with your pizza at Pizza City anymore. The only thing keeping them going is delivery.
Your right can't get a beer and pizza unless you go to the bowling alley, which is fine too.
The bowling alley has some pretty good pizza.
Goosepond pizza is great!
I have to go with Matt Mason he would be the best expert, Pizza City it is.
Thanks Matt
Hold up paw. I just had a nice dinner and think people should give Pizza City another chance. I never claimed to be an expert, nor did I state that it was my favorite restaurant. I do not have a favorite restaurant. Once again, people should give Pizza City another try. I will.
I think we got off the beatin track is there a new place comin to town?
I have heard of two. Papa John's and Denny's. I have also heard Jasonville is getting a new restaurant.
we live here and all we hear is rummers, why can't our council tell us anything? Sorry about your luck with your pepperonlie I have them alot and think there great, no 6 piecies is not on them I get at least 10 on each side and lots of chees just depends on when you order them try it in the day time not at night, At night nothing is the same. Sorry Pizza City.
City Council probably has nothing in it. Remember that we have no zoning, no permits, no inspections, any one can build anything, anywhere, anytime. Hopefully whatever is built isn't a glorified pole barn that looks like crap on the main road thru Linton. (ie downtown corner of vincennes/main)
Matt... I don't know why I read your blogs.... they always make me so hungry! I should've realized our senior year in HS that you were such a food enthusiast considering you made and brought crawdaddy gumbo to English class! That was pretty good too!!! LOL!
