I Love Rumors

I have heard two restaurant rumors as of late.

The first is we are getting a Papa John's. I hear you all saying that we have too many pizza places, but I ask how many deliver?

Second is we have a Denny's heading our way. Interesting thought but I don't see it happening.

Are you interested in either of these restaurants? What would you like to see come to Linton and Greene County?

We need a good pasta / Italian spot with sit-down dining and a nice Chianti on the wine menu. Some of us would like more than pizza and burgers.

The problem I have with Italian restaurants is that they all feel the same to me. It's like Italy sells franchises to "Generic Italian Restaurant."

I'd like to be able to get a good steak in town somewhere, and not come out smelling like cigarette smoke.

If that's all I had to say, then I wouldn't even have wasted my time. As for your question, I would like to see a nice sit down restaurant. Not picky on what they serve. I am just getting a little tired of the fast food.

Fat Fish Blue (So far only in Cleveland and Toledo) Fantastic Cajun eats with live Blues. Serving Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya, Peppery BBQ Shrimp, Cornbread, Crawfish Fritters, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, BBQ ribs, Etouffee, homemade Sweet Potato Pecan Pie, Beignets and Irish Coffee.

I am sorry you feel that way junkmail. Maybe you can get your own blog and write what you want to read.

3J, I used to think that. Now that Bloomfield has the Pepperoni Grill I am pretty satisfied on the local pasta front. I have yet to have a bad meal there. In fact I do believe I should sneak over there and critique it. Oh by the way, do you want fava beans with your chianti?

Sounds great Simmons, but Irish coffee instead of chicory coffee?

-- Posted by Matt Mason on Thu, Aug 14, 2008, at 8:44 AM

Just never could acquire a taste for chicory, plus my eldest daughter and I enjoyed one of the greatest evenings at Fat Fish Blue in Cleveland sipping Irish Coffee and listening to the Blues.

Simmons! Fat Fish Blue was one of my favorite locations in Cleveland when I lived there. The atmosphere in a warehouse-type building with exposed brick and painted duct work was all the rage when it first opened and continues to be that way now. Great blues bands would come from all over to play there. It is even more desirable with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just down the street. Thanks...neat memory!

I love Papa John's pizza. I wonder how a Papa John's would affect Pizza City.

I would rather see another sit down place of any type... just something OTHER than fast food.

Applebee's

-- Posted by speakofthedevil on Thu, Aug 14, 2008, at 2:14 PM

How about a "Catch-of-the-Day Cafe"?!? meow

-- Posted by furball on Fri, Aug 15, 2008, at 2:18 PM

i agree a nice sit down reteraunt would be nice...there are already too many fast food places in town.

-- Posted by sissy on Fri, Aug 15, 2008, at 4:19 PM

Denny's sounds great! None of Greene County needs another pizza place, such as Papa John's. (in my opinion, of course.) We have many good ones, as is.

Pepperoni Grill: YESSIR! Beats Olive Garden any ol' day. If you like Italian and you haven't tried PepGrill, you should!

Send them all to Bloomfield

-- Posted by fanofbloomfield on Fri, Aug 15, 2008, at 4:36 PM

I would like to see a locally owned establishment that can serve a good burger and not be a bar! Like Double Dog but with hamburgers instead of hotdogs!

-- Posted by viaductman on Fri, Aug 15, 2008, at 5:55 PM

Pepperoni Grill, its ok, not near the best!

-- Posted by slaw on Fri, Aug 15, 2008, at 8:57 PM

Hey, Grandpa! What's fer supper?!

Why it's greasy, artery cloggin' food from Denny's, but, alas, no collard greens! Yum, yum.

Bloomfield Pepperoni Grill is great, Bloomfield's Main Street Cafe is a good place to eat, too, try the steak or pork chops, grilled as you order, on Friday nights, at a very reasonable price.

-- Posted by bloomfieldfan on Sat, Aug 16, 2008, at 4:01 PM

I wasn't impressed with Bloomfield's Main Street Cafe. Portions skimpy, too much money.

-- Posted by JimmyJoeJingle on Sat, Aug 16, 2008, at 6:30 PM

Why did the chinese place in Bloomfield stop doing the buffet? I'm almost afraid to ask.

-- Posted by instigator474 on Sat, Aug 16, 2008, at 9:13 PM

ya'll need a popeyes!!

Love Old Bank's mozzarella sticks. Wish they'd change up their main menu though.

-- Posted by JimmyJoeJingle on Sat, Aug 16, 2008, at 9:44 PM

The Old Bank just ain't what she used to be. I have almost always enjoyed their French onion soup.

-- Posted by headless horseman on Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 1:53 PM

Linton already has a good sit down Italian restaurant. Pizza City has sit down dining. They have alot more than pizza. They also have a non-smoking area in the back. Why drive somewhere else when you can get it here in Linton.

CUBS FAN, thats the kind of comment that ends up on Jay Leno. ridiculous. Get out a little more.

I'm not saying Pepperoni Grill is great, but Pizza City?

-- Posted by instigator474 on Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 4:34 PM

Instagator, I've been out plenty. Pizza City has four pasta dishes that are very tasty and reasonably priced. The salad bar has twenty some items and is always fresh. Maybe you should get out and try them.

-- Posted by CUBS FAN on Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 5:14 PM

That is the funniest thing that I have heard all week. Thanks, CUBS FAN.

-- Posted by headless horseman on Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 7:56 PM

You're surely more than welcome headless horseman. Glad to make your week.

the pepperoni grill could be a gold mine...too bad the food is not the same quality it was when it opened. no consistency there. great potential though.

the old bank is very clean in the kitchen and food prep area. those mozz sticks are awesome! there are some really good burgers on that menu too.

-- Posted by soundingoff on Sun, Aug 17, 2008, at 9:41 PM

It's important to support our locally owned establishments. Keep Greene County money in Greene County. We have some really good restaurants and a lot of different options, as far as variety. They may not be exactly what you want, but they offer you good food at good prices. Use them or lose them. That's the bottom line.

Pizza City has EXCELLENT lasagna. I had it last week and loved it. The salad bar is always clean and fully stocked.

Pepperoni Grill has great food and I love the decor and atmosphere. I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. My favorite is the Manicotti. Dipping the great rolls in olive oil and balsamic vinegar starts the meal off right with a fresh crisp salad.

The Old Bank is good -- but sometimes they have a hit and miss. I have three favorites -- the Tilapia, the Chicken Caesar Salad, and the deserts are from Pfections in Vincennes.

The Light House on the Square has, by far, the best lunches in the county. I don't know how they consistently make great food, but they do!

Rosie's and the Grill are both excellent for breakfasts. Rosies is in Eastern and The Grill is in Linton.

As far as Mexican food -- I prefer Cinco de Mayo in Lyons because they offer Pollo Mole, which i chicken with Mole sauce -- which is wonderful dark, unsweetened chocolate sauce.

La Fiesta has great service and I love their guacamole.

The Grill on the Hill (HHH Gun Club) has the best fried pickles! The soups are homemade and their chili is just right. I get a grilled cheese and chili when I eat there. They also have grouper which is neat.

For burgers, no one makes em better than Aggies in Bloomfield. They only serve lunch until about 2:00, so get there early.

Hunters has the best chicken.

As for fast food, Jerry and Gail Margraff run the cleanest McDonalds I have ever been to (and I've traveled extensively). It is always clean, professional, and beautifully landscaped. They update regularly. Kudos to them.

For fantastic Fair Trade coffees and confections -- Francisco de Borja Coffee in Linton. Also, they make a GREAT chicken salad coissant for lunch. It is completely non-smoking and they use clear take out cups made from corn (so they are biodegradable).

Greene County has great little restaurants, fun little bistros and cafes, and even great fast food restaurants like McDonalds. We have many options for meals. I was told by a little bee that the best tasting, most cost effective lunches are served at the Greene County General Hospital. How's that for unusual?!

Greenee:

I've never had a good salad bar at Pizza City. It must be seasonal.

I'd have to agree with you about the light house: Hand down the best!

The McD's on the highway is, I agree, one of the nicest I've been in.

Greene county's restaurants are haphazard at best. I never know what's going to be where and how it's going to be. They get a B- for consistency.

This family loves to eat and for the money and the good food we enjoy pizza city, they are clean, good salad bar and most of all the chicken noodle soup is to die for. Thanks Pizza City

I enjoyed them.
