I love Indianapolis. The city has hundreds of restaurants. Just about every ethnicity and type of food can be found there. But this blog is about the downtown restaurants.
Indianapolis downtown was formally and not very nicely known as "Naptown." Not anymore thanks to the sports and convention scenes that take place almost year round. The Colts and Pacers keep downtown booming when they are in their respective seasons. Gen-Con and Star Wars conventions keep people downtown also.
With all of the people, there are restaurants everywhere. Some are cheap like Circle Centre's food court and some can be expensive like Shula's Steakhouse. A few are family businesses like Iaria's, while Wolfgang Puck is internationally famous for his cuisine. There are new ones like the Tavern at the Temple and others are national icons like The Slippery Noodle and St. Elmo's Steakhouse. Some restaurants are local affairs such as Dunaway's. Others are chain restaurants like Ruth's Chris and The Oceanaire Seafood Room.
For two weeks starting on June second, thirty Indianapolis restaurants will be offering three course menus for a set price. Devour Downtown and its website at http://www.indyrestaurantweek.com is having the restaurants offer special prix-fixe menus for $30. Visit the website to see the participating restaurants and their menus. I am leaning toward the Tavern at the Temple or Dunaway's. Where will you eat?

I hate Indianapolis... There's just nothing that will ever beat grandma's home cookin'.
I agree about the restaurants downtown. Its too bad that our city officials have made it very hard to maintain business downtown. We should all remember that when we go to the next city offical voting box. Downtown seems to be dying, not growing. Such a shame. It could seem like a quaint little village set apart from other cities, making others want to come from out of town. People need to decide what they really want. Business or not business. Mixed messages has made downtown a hesitant place to start a business.
