I would venture a guess that it graces the family dinner table at least once a month. It has been a restaurant staple for years. Hungry Man and Bob Evan's both sell frozen versions. I can buy it practically anywhere. But I don't. It's not the same.
Meatloaf.
Growing up, I was spoiled by the best meatloaf in the world. My mothers. Problem is, I'm not for sure what makes it the best. She says that there isn't a recipe. It almost never holds form; usually sitting in a pile of chunks on the plate. Typically accompanied by mashed potato's and corn, I am hard pressed to find a more perfect family dinner. It would be a difficult decision for me to decide between my mother's meatloaf and a perfectly cooked steak.
I love to cook, but I can be very strange about it. When I decide to cook dinner I have to go to the store. I will walk around the store for at least a half hour looking at all of the fresh meat and vegetables. Changing my mind a few dozen times I finally decide on a menu. On the other hand, my wife is a magician with food. I can look in the pantry, fridge and freezer and not see a bite to eat. In 30-40 minutes, with the same ingredients that I just looked at, she has made a delicious dinner out of nothing. It never ceases to amaze me.

Oh, I loved my Mamaw's meatloaf SO much! I miss her as she's been gone for over a year. And, yes, I miss her meatloaf. I've never tried to make it although she did give me the recipe. Others in our family have made it but I just don't have the courage I guess.
Happy Mother's Day to all!
i think that we are have mothers that make our favorite dish the best.
i know my mom fixes the best baked spaghetti
I would love to try it TDavid, to compare, you know, for scientific purposes.
I'm not one to eat leftovers, but my mom's/grandma's leftovers taste amazingly better than anything that I can make.
OK, VA's4lovers, what about your Dad's leftovers? There never was any because you all ate everything when I served it the first time.
Now that's the sign of a good cook.
The best thing my dad ever cooked, and I would always eat right up, was his specialty dish. It was a cheeseburger hot pocket garnished with browned ground beef. Yummy!
