I GO FOR THE FOOD

Warmer weather is creeping over Indiana and with it comes the festivals. I enjoy taking the time to visit a few different festivals during the year. Generally, I could care less about the crafts and flea markets. I go for the food.

Corndogs and a lemon shake-up. Deep fried Oreo's and fish sandwiches. Possibly even that new treat you have never heard of.

I have compiled a list of some festivals throughout Indiana and many of them focus on a food.

*Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous -- May 24-25 -- I love the crick taters.
*Vintage Indiana in Indianapolis -- June 7 -- An oenophiles dream.
*Frankfort Hot Dog Fest -- July 25-26 -- They have every possible topping.
*Jasper Strassen Fest -- July 31 - August 3 -- German food and beer.
*WellSpring Barbeque Fest in Martinsville -- August 9 -- Many types of smoked goodness.
*Ligonier Marshmallow Fest -- August 29 -- September 1 -- Marshmallows!!
*Little Italy in Clinton -- August 29 -- September 1 -- Excellent eggplant parmesan
*Forth Street Fest -- August 30- 31 -- Really an art festival, but is located on Restaurant Row in Bloomington.
*Tipton County Pork Fest -- September 4-6 -- "World Famous #1 Tipton County Pork Chop."
*ICS Chili Cook-Off -- September 6 -- The State Championship!
*Popcorn Festival of Clay County -- October 2-5 -- Brazil is Orville Redenbacher's hometown.
*Bloomfield Apple Fest -- October 3-4 -- A yearly tradition.
*Parke County Covered Bridge Festival -- October 10-19 -- My personal favorite. Food galore.

Sure does sound delicious. I know I am going to visit more than a few. Maybe I will see you there.

The Bloomfield Apple Festival used to have the best fish sandwiches, but I haven't seen that trailer the past two years. It was initials... something like J & T or something...

The fish stand is still at the Apple Festival. I enjoyed one of the sandwiches this past year. It's usually on the hill across from the high school parking lot.

There used to be a trailer that would travel to Linton and Jasonville...probably more places...called The Fish King. There weren't any festivals accompanying it, just set up outside the IGA for a few days. Those were the best fish sandwiches.

Those are the fish sandwiches I remember from growing up.
