Saturday kicks off the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's week-long events for the Freedom Festival.

The Classic Car Cruise-in will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Humphreys Park.

There will be food and kids games in the park during the cruise-in. At 6 p.m. the Little Miss and Mr. Linton contest will take place. This is always a favorite event.

Registration forms are available at the Chamber office. Those wanting to participate in the Little Miss and Mr. Linton contest must be at least 3 years of age and not older than 5 years of age and must have a Linton address.

Saturday will also have Kade Puckett performing finger style guitar and the ever popular Karaoke Contest.

The entertainment for Sunday, June 28 will begin at 7 p.m. with the Vesper services by the Assembly of God Church. This will be followed at 8:30 p.m. with entertainment by Mike Fonderhide.

Monday, June 29 will find the James Gang Amusements opening at 6 p.m. with the midway. The James Gang Amusements will run from Monday June 29 through Saturday, July 4.

The entertainment for Monday evening at the bandshell will be the Lyons First Christian Church's Praise Band - By His Words.

Tuesday, June 30 will be a busy night in the park. At 5 p.m. WTWO Channel 2 in Terre Haute will again broadcast its Live at 5 and its 6 news from Humphreys Park.

We are very fortunate to have as our entertainment on June 30 the Army National Guard's 38th Infantry Division Band from Indianapolis. This band is making a tour of southern Indiana and has included us on their 2009 schedule. Following the performance by the 38th Division Band, Tony Kluesner and Virgil Franklin will be performing on their steel drums along with the WRV Jammin' Pans.

The Wednesday, July 1 entertainment will be local bluegrass favorites Salt Cured beginning at 7 p.m. followed by former Freedom Festival Queen Laura Beth Correll-Cross and husband Kevin at 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, July 2 the 50 member Bloomington Community Band will be performing at 7 p.m. followed by Wikker Elefant featuring local favorite Becky Poe at 8:30 p.m.

On Friday, July 3 Vincennes University has partnered with the Freedom Festival and will be bringing Terry Lee and the Rockaboogie Band to the bandshell. This high energy group should appeal to a wide audience.

On July 4, our current Freedom Festival Queen Allison Young will kick off the evening entertainment followed by Kelsey Andis. Gregg Orman and the Cornerstone Eagle Band will be bringing a Silver Star Salute to Veterans following Kelsey Andis. All area veterans will be recognized during this performance.

* Congratulations are in order for Generations and the entire Linton NNORC team. They were notified recently that they are among the recipients of the 2009 n4a Aging Achievement Awards for the Linton NNORC/Shepherd Community Community Planning award category.

This has been a year long process and the entire team should be very proud of their accomplishments.

* Congratulations to McDonald's. They are celebrating their 20th anniversary.

Gayle and Jerry Margraf opened the local restaurant 20 years ago this week.

They are offering specials throughout the week. Be sure to stop in and say hello.

* Linton resident Larry Massa will have a book signing Saturday at Shepherd's Love Bible Book Store. The signing will be from 1-3 p.m.

There will also be chances to win a DVD copy of the movie National Treasure starring Nicolas Cage. The Shepherd's Love Book Store is located at 340 A Street NW in Linton.

* The next session of the Steppin On Up program for Greene County kicks off July 7 at the Glenburn Community and Wellness Center. This session will be on Cancer Awareness and Proper Nutrition.
