Mayor Jones to talk about city at Chamber meeting

The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's June meeting will be June 16 at the Linton Elks Lodge.
Lunch will be at noon. Our featured speaker will be Mayor Tom Jones. Mayor Jones will give the members an update on the city. We will also recognize the Freedom Festival Queen Allison Young and Court Taneal Church and Leah McDonald. We hope you plan to join us. * The Freedom Festival Golf Tournament will be Saturday, June 13 at the Phil Harris Golf Course. This is a 2-man flighted golf tournament. This year's event will be 27 holes and again use an alternate shot format. The shot gun start begins at 9 a.m. Cost to play in this year's event is $40 for Phil Harris course members and $60 for non-members. The day includes lunch, tee packs, door prizes and challenge prizes. Those playing in this year's tournament will also have the opportunity to play at the Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort & Casino on Oct. 26 at a reduced price. To register your team call the Phil Harris Golf Course at 847-4790. * The Freedom Festival 5K Run/2 Mile Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at 8 a.m. at the Linton-Stockton High School track. This run/walk is an in/out course beginning at the high school track. There will be individual awards given to runners in assorted age groups and trophies awarded to the overall best male and female runners. Those pre-registering will also be eligible for an event T-shirt. A special rate is available to those walkers who participate in the county's Steppin On Up program. Parade applications are rolling in ... do we have yours yet? * The Freedom Festival weeklong events begin on Saturday, June 27 with the annual Classic Car Cruise-In. This year's cruise-in will again be at Humphreys Park. Following the cruise-in, the Little Miss/Mr Linton contest will be held at 6 p.m. followed by entertainment by Cade Puckett at 7 p.m. and then our very popular karaoke contest at 8 p.m. by Fast Eddie. The James Gang Amusements are set to run Monday, June 29 through Saturday, July 4 for this year's Freedom Festival. Monday night's entertainment at the band shell will be the local Christian group Tapestry. Tapestry will begin performing at 7 p.m. The Civitan Club has available their tickets for the July 4 ham breakfast. The breakfast began in 1982. Serving begins at 6 a.m. at the Linton Fire House. Proceeds from this breakfast help fund the community projects including the Toys-for-Tots and Clothe-a-Child. Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door for adults. Children 12 and under are $4.
