Festival queen will be crowned March 7

The Linton Freedom Festival's annual Scholarship Pageant is just over a week away. It will be March 7 at the Linton-Stockton High School Auditeria.
We have five young ladies from Linton-Stockton High School who will be participating in this year's event. The Freedom Festival Queen and Court represent the Linton Freedom Festival throughout the 34 Days of June and at the Indiana State Festival Association's scholarship pageant in November. * Seats remain available for The Van-Dells on March 14 at the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Chamber office. Ticket prices are $22 and $20. Contact the Chamber office at 847-4846 or stop in at 159 1st Street NW to get your tickets. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Linton Freedom Festival. * The Chamber's Spring Expo is scheduled for March 21 at the Linton National Guard Armory. This event is free to the public. The hours for this year's Expo will be 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Concessions will be provided. Businesses and non-profits interested in participating can contact the Chamber office for more information. * A reminder that not-for-profit training is available this month at the Greene County 4-H fairgrounds. This month's sessions include: Marketing your Mission Successfully will be from 9 a.m.-noon on March 17. Learn the essentials of communicating effectively so your mission is understood and supported. People don't give unless they understand what you do, this session will help your organization develop a concise and powerful message and NonProfits in Crisis, What it takes to Survive in a Down Economy on March 31 from 9 a.m. - noon. This workshop will help non-profits weather a downturn in the economy or make the hard decision to restructure or close. Topics will include identifying and weathering hard times, best practices to protect the board and staff, options available if you can't survive and how to address legal and ethical concerns. All sessions are at the 4-H fairgrounds in Switz City. Cost is $25 per session for four or fewer members from the same Greene County organization. From other counties it costs $10 a person. Call 659-3142 for more information. Sessions are sponsored by the Greene County Community Learning Center, Indiana Not for Profit Resource Network, and the Greene County Foundation. Registration deadline is three days prior to event. * American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days is in full swing. This is an opportunity to help find a cure for cancer and save lives. Your dollars support the American Cancer Society's groundbreaking research, education, early detection efforts, advocacy, and local patient services. The order deadline is March 13. Orders can be faxed to (812) 339-9213 or dropped off at the Watering Can in Linton. Orders can be picked up at the Watering Can in Linton from March 19-20. Ten fresh cut daffodils are available for $10; you can get them vased for $15. You can also purchase a case of daffodils for $500. Have a special friend who is a cancer patient or a cancer survivor? Why not send them an anonymous delivery of daffoldils for $25. Order forms are available at the Chamber office. * Attention small businesses! The Indianapolis Better Business Bureau has recently released IRS e-News for Small Businesses. Some of the topics covered are: Tax Provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Reporting cash payments over $10,000, March Tax Talk Today: The IRS audit process, IRS news on SBTV.com, Publication 583: Starting a business and keeping records, and Recent announcements for small businesses.
