The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's November meeting will be Nov. 18 at Pizza Hut on State Road 54 east of Linton.

Our speaker for November will be representatives from the Linton WorkOne/Workforce Development office. The staff will be bringing information to our members on a new free program offered through our local WorkOne office.

The new program is through MindLeaders and offers over 100 training topics ranging from Microsoft Works programs to Sexual Harassment to QuickBooks to Customer Service Training to Web Design.

As mentioned, the service is free to businesses and their employees. WorkOne representatives will be demonstrating the program and explaining the enrollment process.

You won't want to miss this opportunity to learn more about this service.

* Congratulations to Ashton Montgomery the 2008 Linton Freedom Festival queen.

Ashton finished as first runner-up in last weekend's Indiana State Festival Association's scholarship pageant. Ashton competed against 15 other young ladies from around the state for scholarship money to continue her education at the University of Southern Indiana.

* Congratulations to Chamber member Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home on another successful Veterans Day Memorial Service.

Due to inclement weather the service was moved indoors but those in attendance again witnessed a wonderful display of patriotism and honor to our veterans.

* As part of their year-long 50th Anniversary Celebration, Chamber member Francis' Jewel Box is "Counting Our Blessings" during November. Each customer making a purchase at Francis' Jewel Box will be entered into their monthly drawing for a $50 gift certificate, but they will also donate $1 to the area food pantries.

Customers can also bring in non-perishable food items and receive $2 off their watch battery purchase during November.

Stop by Francis' Jewel Box, 145 North Main Street in downtown Linton, to help them "Count Our Blessings."

* Ladies, you are cordially invited to attend the "4th Annual Diamonds and Desserts" on Nov. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Francis' Jewel Box.

Ring in the holiday season with an elegant evening of pampering with Mary Kay Satin Hand treatments and hand massages while you enjoy delectable desserts and champagne.

You can "play dress up" and dream about what Santa can put under your tree this Christmas.

* As reported last week, we have Chamber members with activities this week.

On Nov. 13, James Hutchinson will visit Chamber member Linton Public Library at 3:30 p.m. to present a program to children and then again at 6 p.m. for adults.

He will talk about his two books, "Through These Eyes," based on the diary of his service in the Eighth Air Force in WWI and "Bombs Away," his soon-to-be-released book, based on amazing stories of death and survival on bombing missions, mid-air collisions and Prisoner of War experiences from other veterans of the WWI Eighth Air Force and boyhood tales from the Great Depression.

This evening promises to be enlightening for every age. For more information or to make reservations call 847-7802.

* On Friday, Nov. 14, Chamber member Glenburn Community Center will host a breakfast fundraiser from 7 - 10 a.m. The cost is $5 per person and tickets are available at the Community Center.

They will be serving omelets and bacon as well as biscuits and gravy. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase additional exercise equipment for the Wellness Center and provide programs at the Community Center.

* And don't forget that Chamber member Linton Family Pharmacy is now offering flu shots on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays while supplies last.

You are welcome to walk in their location at 60 A Street NE in Downtown Linton from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. to get your shot.

For more information please call 847-1978.

* The holiday season is fast approaching. We would like to remind local shoppers to visit our Chamber members when shopping this holiday season.

Our local businesses are those who continue to support our community and school functions year after year. We never hesitate to ask them for a donation to a good cause, let's remember to repay the favor and shop with them this holiday season ... and throughout the year.

Don't see what you're looking for? Ask. Perhaps they are able to locate that special item for you.

Remember to support those who support us.
