Tickets available for annual fish fry

Tickets are now available for the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's fall fish fry on Thursday, Oct. 16.
This event will once again be at the Roy Clark Community Building in Humphreys Park from 4 to 8 p.m. Advanced tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 11 and under. In addition to fish, we will be serving cole slaw, baked beans and homemade desserts. Proceeds from this event benefit the Freedom Festival. * Interested in helping Linton? The Linton Fire Department is accepting donations to replace the American flags that are displayed throughout the city during patriotic holidays. Fireman Brad Sparks is spearheading this drive. The goal is to purchase 150 new American flags. A donation for one flag is $15. If you would like to make a donation to this project, contact the LInton Fire Department at 847-4413 or the Chamber office at 847-4846. * The Greene County Community Learning Center has several programs going on. Friday, Sept. 5 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. a two-way conference sponsored by Barnes and Thornburg and TechPoint. "Letting Go to Grow." TechPoint's Sept. 5 New Economy New Rules program presented by Barnes & Thornburg will explore the questions surrounding a transition from founder-operated companies to professional management models. On Thursday, Sept. 11 from 7-9 p.m., at the Learning Center, Videso Seminar Series 2008 Land Use Update will be presented. "Green Infrastructure and Green Building" is the title of this program. The focus of this program will help plan commission, board of zoning appeals members, planners, builders, developers, local officials and decision makers, natural resource groups, government agencies, and interested public learn new and innovative strategies in the area of green infrastructure and green building. Registration is required. Contact the Learning Center at (812) 659-3862 for more info or to register. * The Greene County Citizens Academy will soon be starting their third session this fall. If you are interested in learning more about how the mechanics of our county works and a way for you to get involved, this is the perfect place for you to get started. Additional information can also be found at * Chamber member Myer's Wholesale in Lyons will be hosting its first annual Poker Run and Bike Show on Saturday, Aug. 30. This is in celebration of its one-year anniversary. The event begins at Myer's Wholesale located at State Road 67 in Lyons and will end at the American Legion Post 479 in Lyons. This is open to the public, cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple and include a meal ticket. Poker run sign-in is from 10:30 a.m. - noon and the ride leaves at noon. The bike show begins at 4 p.m. with awards at 5 p.m. and dinner following the awards. All proceeds from the Poker Run will be benefiting Operation Troop Aid. Operation Troop Aid provides care packages for our deployed U. S. Service members. For information regarding Operation Troop Aid visit www.operationtroopaid.org. * The Greene County Economic Development Corporation's annual golf tournament will be Friday, Sept. 19 at the Phil Harris Golf Course. This is a 4-Person Scramble with a 10 a.m. shot gun start. The cost is $50 per person and includes green fees, carts and lunch. Cost for Phil Harris members is $35. There will be skill prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt in addition to a first place grand prize.
