Over the last month there has been several outdoor events that we have taken part in and enjoyed very much.
A guided dove hunt at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area for first time dove hunters was a great success. A light meal was served an orientation and safety talk was given by Property Manager Brad Feaster. The first time dove hunters took 83 doves. A good time was had by all. Thank You to all who participated. On Labor Day weekend Sherrell & Glenda had one of their cookouts. At these outdoor feed bluegill fillets, frog legs, dove breast fillets and grilled chicken and on the side morel mushrooms and fried green tomatoes were the main table fair. As is usual for one of these cookouts the food and fellowship were great and as is our custom the evening was ended with an ATV ride around the area to look at the wildlife. Sue and I took a leisurely ATV trip to the river, and on this trip we packed a lunch and rode the sand bars till noon and had a relaxing lunch watching the river go by. The Pow Wow at Shakamak was another good time outdoors. The drumming, singing and dancing was a great experience to be part of. The theme of the Pow Wow was (in my opinion) cultural diversity and that everyone belongs. There is much to be learned from the Native American Culture. In just a short time early archery season will be starting. It's time to get that deer license, do some scouting, put up some stands and be part of this annual change of seasons and make a harvest of venison for the table and freezer. As I have said many times in the past Greene County is a great place to be a outdoors person. |
