I thought I would tell you about some of the outdoor things that we have been doing in the last few weeks.

My friend Kegan and I went on another trip to Redbird ORV area. We talked with Shawn about trail conditions and we saw the trail crew out on the trail system putting rock in some of the worst ruts and filling water holes. Also we hear that a better trail map will be available soon.

Sherrell and Glenda had the second annual Low Country Boil. For those of you, who don't know what that is. It is a Cajun themed cookout, shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, red potatoes and Cajun spices all go into a boiling pot at different times to ensure that it is done, then the hole mixture is dumped on to a large covered table or pan and then you pick out what you like and it is all served with the appropriate sauces. The food, friendship and fellowship was outstanding. The evening was ended with an ATV trip around the area to look at the wildlife.

Greater and greater numbers of birds continue to visit Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area as do visitors from around the country. Just a trip to the double ditches parking lot in the evening one can see several different species coming in to Goose Pond Main Pool to roost. Several miles of levee top walking and hiking are available for the more adventurous. On a single walk at GP 10s black creek levee we have seen several bird species as well as Deer, Beaver, Muskrat, Red Fox, American Coyote and Mink all it takes is to sign in and take a walk.

We have seen more and more Whitetail Deer moving around in the last couple of weeks. I'm always amazed to watch a whitetail doe with her fawns. She is always watchful of them. She moves a short distance and stops to look back over her shoulder to be sure each one is following and if one strays off to far a foot stomp or snort will bring them right back to her. It's a touching sight.

The hunting seasons are starting and it's just a reminder that Fall is not far off.
