Bluegills, Mushrooms and Gathered wild greens

There are many things to do in Greene County in the spring. Lets take a look at some of these.

A couple of weeks ago we took a trip to Red Bird ORV area. We had a good time riding the trails. The person working the gate was friendly and helpful. However there is room for improvement on the trail system and map. For example starting down a trail that is marked easy turns in to most difficult leaving you nowhere to go but back. ( Unless you want to risk your life ). A legible trail map is something to be desired.

Pan fishing has been good. Contrary to what some people have been saying the lakes, Ponds, Rivers and Creeks are not fished out. It's all in knowing how, when and where to go. As with all outdoor pursuits, you have to do your research and scouting. Techniques that have worked in the past may not work now.

Mushrooming has been good this year. We have had several meals of bluegills, mushrooms and gathered wild greens. There's nothing better than a meal gathered from Mother Natures Pantry.

Turkey season is in full swing some nice birds have been taken. There is still time to get out there and get a Turkey for your freezer.

In the night sky in the month of May there are many constellations visible. The brightest sky object is Arcturus in the constellation Bootes. The Full Moon in May is on the 8th and is called the Flower Moon other names are Corn Moon and Milk Moon.

At Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife area the spring Shore Bird migration is still underway, many of these species can be seen from the HWY if you take the time to look.

As I have said many times Greene County is a great place to be an outdoors person.
