Sandhill Cranes

Well here we are, most of the hunting seasons are over. And those seasons that are still open will be over soon.

While some had a very productive year, others did not. But it's not about the game you take it's about being outdoors.

There was a short time when some were able to get out and do some Ice fishing, and those folks seemed to have done very well on bluegills.

With spring and warmer weather on it's way Fishing will be picking up and Turkey season won't be far behind and let's not forget Mushroom season. I can almost taste the bluegills and morels now.

In the last few days more and more Sandhill Cranes have been arriving in the Goose Pond area. I always look forward to seeing and hearing these migrating birds.

Redbird state ORV riding area will be opening soon and I have been told it will be bigger and better than ever. More on this later.

In the night time sky some of the visible constellations are Orion, Big Dipper, Little Dipper, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Great Square of Pegasus, Canis Major, Canis Minor, Gemini, Taurus, Leo and let's not forget the star cluster Pleides. There are 11 sky objects of the first magnitude or brighter visible. In order of brightness they are Venus, Sirius, Capella, Rigel, Procyon, Saturn, Betelgeuse, Aldebaran, Pollux, Deneb and Regulus.

Greene County and surrounding area is an excellent place to have an outdoor adventure no matter what your outdoor pursuit.

We are very fortunate to have the Goosepond and State Forest in our backyard, as always I enjoy reading your articles.
