Well here we are in the first part of fall.
Some early hunting seasons are under way, fall fishing is ongoing, trees are beginning to change to there fall colors. Deer are beginning to move around more getting ready for the breeding season. I urge everyone to get out and experience our environment in this season of change. A mammal that is not common to the area has been seen in the Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area. The Nine Banded Armadillo, the normal range of the Armadillo is the southern states, but this mammal has been expanding it's range for the last several years and now seems to have found it's way to Greene County. In the night sky two constellations that are prominent in the eastern sky in the evening are the Pleiades (seven sisters) and Cassiopeia can you find these constellations? The full moon on the 14th is called the hunters moon, other names for this moon are travel moon, dying grass moon and blood moon. I would like to see one of those armadillos jump. I heard that they can jump up to 4ft.!!
Armadillo? I had read where their range was expanding to the Illinois side of the Wabash a couple years back. See they have now made it to Greene county. Would be very interesting to see one of those.
Chuck: what is your opinion of the Goosepond discussion going on in this paper, seems us outdoor types from the county has been left out as to our interests in fishing & hunting in favor of some birdwatcher from Paris thats here once every 12 years
