Summer is winding down

Well here we are summer is winding down. Some plant species are beginning to dry, a sure sign that Fall is on its way. With a some what shorter growing season some garden plants have not done as well. However we still had a nice crop of tomatoes , cucumbers, black raspberries, strawberries and have had from local growers, nice watermelons and sweet corn. Even in years when conditions are not at there best we still have an abundance of produce within easy reach, how blessed we truly are.
With Fall coming on the hunting seasons are about to get started, with Squirrel season starting in the middle of the month. In the month of August the full moon on the 16th is called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon. The Perseid Meteor shower peaks around the 12th or 13th of this month, for the best viewing look toward the North Eastern sky away from any source of light. Vega, Altair and Deneb form the summer triangle and is just east of directly overheat. There are 7 sky objects of the first magnitude or brighter, they are in order of brightness Jupiter, Arcturus, Vega, Altair, Antares, Spica and Deneb. See if you can locate these sky objects. All of these things make Greene County a great place to be an Outdoors Person.
