We all lead busy lives, but we should take time to see the beauty all around us. Lets take a look at some common wildflowers in our area.

Daisy Fleabane has a stiff hairy stem bearing flowers with many white to pale pink petals surrounding a yellow center disk, the flower is about 1/2 inch wide and blooms from June to October. It inhabits open fields and roadsides. The name fleabane comes from an early belief that the dried flower would rid a dwelling of fleas.

Common Milkweed a large leafed plant with a drooping flower head that ranges from purplish to pink in color. The flower cluster is about 2 inches wide with many flowers in it. The flower it self is about 1/2 inches wide with 5 petals on it and a central crown. It inhabits open fields and roadsides and flowers from June to August.

Virginia Rose a bushy plant with hairy stems and stout curved thorns. The flower is about 2 inches wide with 5 petals and is pink in color. It inhabits open fields, thickets and shorelines. It flowers from June to August.

Day Lily has a leafless stalk that has several orange funnel shaped flowers with 6 petals and ranges from 2 to 4 feet in height. They inhabit meadows, woodland boarders and roadsides. This non-native was introduced here and reproduces from the roots and flowers from May to July.
