Its been a tough couple of weeks in Greene County,tornado's, severe thunderstorms, and (Historic) major flooding. Our planet seems to be going through some climate changes, weather its a natural cycle or mankind induce something is happening.

Greene County has had a hard 2 weeks and I know we can over come this natural disaster because we are more than conquerors.

Lets take a look at a couple of Reptiles.

The Snapping Turtle; This interesting turtle can weight as much as 45lbs in the wild and inhabits freshwater and like mud bottom marshes, lakes and swamps. It feeds on aquatic plants, fish, birds and small mammals. Some find the meat to be good and makes excellent soup.

Eastern Box Turtle; This turtle inhabits damp forest areas and wet meadow areas. It feeds on slugs, earthworms, wild strawberries, and mushrooms. If its habitat remains the same it has been known to live for 100 years. Early American Indian Tribes used their shell for rattles.

Both of these species can be found at Goose Pond.

I have been ask how to get started birding. A good wild bird reference book and an optical device are needed. A good rule of thumb for purchasing optics is to buy the best you can afford at the time. Join a birding group and the Audubon Society. This is just a basic way to get started birding and this hobby can be an exciting way to experience the outdoors.
