Exploring our wild areas

While exploring our wild land this week I couldn't help but notice that some of the crop fields had not been prepared for planting and a crop of goldenrod had come up and how beautiful that field was with the sun shining on it.

With all the rain we have had the lakes, rivers and streams are all high and has slowed fishing a little.

We are still catching bluegills however.

Camping at Greene-Sullivan State Forest has been picking up partly because of turkey hunting and mushroom hunting which helps our local economy.

Between Goose-Pond Fish and wildlife area and Greene-Sullivan State Forest it has been a good week to observe wildlife,The Great Blue heron,Great Egret,Least Sandpiper,Red-wing blackbird,American Bittern,Short-eared Owl and the Yellow-Crowned Night Heron some of these species are on the endangered or special concern list. Whitetail Deer,American Coyote,Raccoon,Rabbits and Turkeys.

Most of these species can been seen with just one tour a round these natural areas.

With gas prices continuing rise it makes good sense to use the recreational opportunities we have in our own backyard.

I'd say go for it and enjoy it now before the mosquitoes get so bad we can't step foot outside.

*grumbles* Stupid rain.

"I couldn't help but notice that some of the crop fields had not been prepared for planting"

Just guessing, maybe it is too wet.

I'll bet the farmers are really enjoying this, how about it KD? Seen any Egret's or Sandpipers in your fields that remain unplanted and under water?

What do you think of that goldenrod in the sunshine? Think it will bring much this fall?

Couldn't agree with you more Chuck. It's time people started enjoying just what we have here in our own backyard.

There's a State Park, the Goose Pond area, Hilderbrand and several other great places to fish, camp and just enjoy the outdoors.

No need to spend a great deal of money on gas to go somewhere else is what I think.
