Busy times for this outdoorsman

With our many outdoor pursuits late summer and early fall are always busy.
Preparing for a wilderness adventure to BWCAW. (Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness). This is a trip we have been taking last few years and is a great time of fellowship and fishing. Preseason scouting for early archery, this is a good chance to get out and check on deer patterns and see how they may have changed for last year. Wildlife study around the area is always fun and we get to see a great variety of wildlife, but in the last few weeks I have been noticing more migratory birds coming and going. The Great Blue Herons and the Great Egrets in Goose Pond units 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are really a beautiful thing to see. As you can see fall at our house is a busy time to be an outdoors person.
Summer is winding down Well here we are summer is winding down. Some plant species are beginning to dry, a sure sign that Fall is on its way. With a some what shorter growing season some garden plants have not done as well. However we still had a nice crop of tomatoes , cucumbers, black raspberries, strawberries and have had from local growers, nice watermelons and sweet corn. Even in years when conditions are not at there best we still have an abundance of produce within easy reach, how blessed we truly are...

Stargazing in July The up coming month of July is a good month to be outdoors at night looking at the heavens. There are many planets and constellations to be seen. Take time to see the beauty all around us. We all lead busy lives, but we should take time to see the beauty all around us. Lets take a look at some common wildflowers in our area. Daisy Fleabane has a stiff hairy stem bearing flowers with many white to pale pink petals surrounding a yellow center disk, the flower is about 1/2 inch wide and blooms from June to October. It inhabits open fields and roadsides. The name fleabane comes from an early belief that the dried flower would rid a dwelling of fleas...
