What were they thinking?

Ok so some people have been bugging me about posting another blog on here, so on my way home from work last night I was trying to think of something to rant about and never really came up with anything besides how bad my Kentucky Wildcats are this year, and the state that my Bears are in, and the Cubs. But when I got home and turned on Sportscenter I found two topics within the first 20 minutes of watching.

The first was the possible trade of Johan Santana from the Twins to the Mets and the other being Plaxico Burress predicting the Giants to beat the Patriots.

Lets start with the Santana trade. Immediately after hearing the possible trade, the analysts starting making predictions about the Mets being the front runner for the best team in the National League now and Santana winning the NL Cy Young. Now don't get me wrong here Santana is a great pitcher, probably the best pitcher in the game today, as his $20million plus a year salary demands, but to say one he alone makes the Mets the favorite to be the best team, come on now!!!

Correct me if Im wrong here, but doesn't the New York Yankees have the best player in baseball in Alex Rodriguez?? And what have they won since he has been there???

Santana is a great addition, would be for any ball club, but lets not crown them just yet. Here is my prediction........well I'll just keep that to myself for the time being.

Topic number two, Plaxico Burress. Why would you want to give the 18-0 New England Patriots bulletin board material? Are you really that dumb? The Patriots have the best coach this game has seen in the last couple decades, the best clutch quarterback since Joe Cool himself, and an arsenal of weapons on the offensive side of the ball and a veteran group of guys on the defensive side.

They are trying to re-write history so don't you think they are focused enough. And now Burress just adds more fuel to the Patriots fire! Good job Plaxico.

Moving on, this just in, in a Burress kind of way, golfer Ian Poulter is quoted to saying "...I haven't played to my fullest potential and when that happens, it will be just me and Tiger." Guess he missed out on the Buick Invitational over the past weekend. Maybe Poulter and Rory Sabbatini can pair up and play Tiger in a handicap match!

Much like my bowling, Ian has just not quite lived up to his "fullest" potential. He may just be another diamond in the rough.

With a name like Plaxico, you should be expected to spout off occasionally. Just remember, "On any given Sunday..."

I like a sports writer that is bold. You fill that requirement in your first paragraph. Anybody who says my Kentucky Wildcats in this neck of the woods is brave.

You have made great observations with the dumb remarks that some athletes make. But, aren't there times that these young men should be given a break? Every word they say is srutinized. Shouldn't the coaches, who never take a hit, be responsible for what is said prior to the game?

By the way, I have seen Simmons bowl. He may be a diamond in the rough. But in my opinion he hasn't reached coal stage yet.

The more I thought about this, I don't have any problem with Plaxico's statement at all. What should he say, "We are going to lose."? I'd hate to believe that the Giants are thinking they are going to lose.

Broadway Joe made a similar statement many years ago and people said much the same thing about him.

No Wigs, the coaches are not responsible for what "professional" athletes say. And I can't believe what you said about my bowling. If only my tendonitis wasn't flaring up, I'd show you a thing or two. That really hurts coming from a Hall of Famer, such as you. Yes folks, I have witnessed it, our own infamous Wiglund is in the Bowling Hall of Fame.

thanks wiglund, i think anyways!

im not afraid to announce who my true teams are, and im use to the criticism with being a 'cats fan in hoosier territory and a bears fan in mostly colts territory, and being a cubs fan my whole life has given me pretty thick skin over the years!!!

and the whole plaxico comment, im not saying that he should think they are going to lose, no player on any team at any level should express such negative comments, im just saying why make such a BOLD prediction on such a big stage, cause even if he didnt mean any disrespect to the pats, it being the superbowl the comment is going to get blown way out of proportion, and like I said, end up as bulletin board material to a team that already has enough motivation and determination the way it is!!!

I guess the Patriots didn't get enough motivation from the bulletin board.

And...

maybe Plaxico really wasn't that dumb after all.
