Grandma is always there to share hugs, kisses

It's storytelling time once again.

And this time it's personal.

This column has served as a way to honor several members of my family. I've shared memories of my grandmothers, sons, friends, "better or worse half," cousins and more.

This time I'm honoring a person who I've yet to really write about. There's a time for everything ... and so it goes.

As we all get older we lose loved ones who have taught us, doted on us and cherished us. Honoring those we have lost is a tradition of sorts. But, what's often lost on us is honoring the people who we see everyday. The ones that can easily be taken for granted.

I'm a very lucky girl.

I still have a grandma that's alive and kicking.

She loves to shop and talk and she always shares hugs and kisses.

I grew up calling her Momkoonce. But, she also goes by "coo-coo," grandma, mom and Sondra.

She wears many hats. She's been a grandma to my best friend who has lost most of her family. She's been chosen as special person during both of my sons second-grade year. She's a wife and a mother and a friend to many.

She's also one of the few people who I have discussions with about my job. I can confide in her. She listens and supports me unconditionally.

I'm sure she's told people time and time again that I'm my own person and she wouldn't have me any other way.

How wonderful is it to have someone love you for you? I can't tell you with words. But, I know it makes me feel warm and snug all over ... just like being tucked into bed when I was a kid.

Oh yes, I'm a very fortunate girl.

This is AWESOME, Timberly - you said so much in just a few words - I love your grandma - through all the years I've known her, I can see she has a loving nature and has carried it on through her family.

I agree - you are VERY fortunate indeed.

She's a "peach"......like YOU.
