It's time for Linton to shine.

That's right, the city of Linton is being spiffed up. Folks are cleaning their porches, trimming their shrubs and making last minute preparations for the traditional Freedom Festival parade.

This will be the first time the Ferree-Puckett clan really experiences living on the parade route.

Last year was our first Fourth of July experience as 'Main Streeters' but it was also our wedding day.

This time we are looking forward to viewing the parade from our front yard. In keeping with past traditions, I'll also be working during the parade.

That's right. I'll need a story from those of you who are in the crowd. I really enjoy talking to people from near and far about their past and present parade experiences.

Covering the Fourth of July parade may be work but it's also a lot of fun. It's like getting paid to talk to people you haven't seen in years. Covering the parade is also important because it allows me to share your story.

Why do you return home for the Fourth? What's your favorite part of the parade? What do you look forward to most? How many years have you been coming to the parade? What does the Fourth of July mean to you?

Everyone has a story -- and I'd be grateful if you'd share yours with me.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July and I'll see you at the parade.

The 4th in Linton is absolutely one of my fondest memories of growing up. It was all about seeing people.

There's something "Bradburyesque" about the evenings at the carnival, running around with my friends and seeing all of the people from far away places. And the parade...it was all about walking around with my friends and seeing people. But it was also about seeing the flag, remembering our history and being proud.

After the parade we retreated to Grandma's house for grilled dogs and burgers. Throughout the day friends and relatives would stop in to visit and I loved to lounge around and listen to the stories.

During my college years I brought several groups of friends down to experience the 4th in Linton. We snuck beer in our coolers and again, just hung out and enjoyed the day--everyone always had a good time.

So...I'm at the beach this year...but for all of you folks back there in Linton, enjoy what you have it a great week to be there.

We go to the parade and park every 4th of July. I am not from Linton but these 2 things have made the 4th my favorite holiday. Way to go Linton!!!

I've "done the parade" all my life as an attendee, a member of the LHS marching Miners, and as a band director (ah, the good ol' days).

Linton simply pulls out all of the stops when it comes to the 4th of July. This year I'll be sitting curb side watching my son march his last 4th of July parade here in Linton. (sigh)

Happy 1st Anniversary to you and Cade. I always enjoy reading your article in the newspaper. I haven't been able to attend the parade for a few years I have been working. I think it is really nice to see all the people gather for a parade, fireworks in the park.

Keep up the good work that you and all the others at the greene county daily world.
