Little towns. Big mouths. (Revisited) That's right folks, let's talk gossip again. How is it that one person's hot air can be made into a true fact within a simple conversation? I've often said the easiest way to set the town afire with smack talk is to stand on Main Street and just chat with some non-suspecting person. The next thing you know staff writer #3 is getting a new job, moving to Tennessee or making extensive plans to overtake the world. Well...you never know. (So just in case, spread the word.) The sad thing is that you need not be a politician, coach or business owner to fall into the dirty grips of gossipville. Anyone can fall prey to it at anytime. The smaller the town the faster the dirt flies. We don't need national headlines in Greene County, we just need some extra time to spotlight the juice. As hard as it may be my suggestion is to ignore those gossip heads by turning the other cheek. But, as boredom calls along with it comes idle time to talk or text and the next thing you know you've just got an earful. So the next time you hear about the business owner who cheated during the @#$#? or the coach who went crazy at the @#@!$ and the husband and wife who like to ?^%$# just remember he who talks the most smack usually has the most to hide. Seems noone is too high & mighty or low enough to duck it.
In our small town across the river we have a hand full of horrible rumor moms, all of which have to tell rumors and spread gossip in order get attention and to make their lives seem better.
It's very ironic - like you said, those telling are usually the ones who have the most to hide - and these ladies (if they can be called that) have so much to hide and images they try to sugar coat like total brats for kids, daughters who are extremely rude and mean not to mention way overweight, sons who drink like fish. If you notice gossipers also have their noses in everyone elses business and for some reason they are loud people, trying to draw attention to themselves.
Oh well, inside they are suffering - they have made mistakes and still are, mistakes that have ruined the lives of people they must face everyday! They are getting theirs!

Amen! You nailed it on the head, exactly.
My experience is that the worst gossipmongers are so called christian women. They praise themselves for being such good christians, going to church regularly, and conveniently don't notice the scriptures that talk about gossiping and 'women who gad about from house to house'. Sounds about right, doesn't it? These women burn up the telephone lines and gas in their vehicles to tell in person their nasty dirt on others, teasing out of the story only those pieces of information that will get the biggest reaction and will sway the listener to their point of view. They leave out mitigating information. Honesty isn't their goal, they have no concerns about integrity.
But fortunately, they give themselves a reputation and anyone halfway intelligent knows not to pay attention to them. Just wait.... the rest of the story usually comes out eventually and then you can see just how diabolical these women are. and if they gossip TO you, believe me, they gossip ABOUT you. So they are friend to NO ONE.
You are also right that they are usually the ones with the most to hide. Their families are usually falling apart. If they spent half the time with their kids doing wholesome things that they spend talking about others, their homelife would look a lot different. But these people feed off the misery of others and adding to it.

Well said. Gossip is a very dangerous tool in the hands of someone the community holds in high regards. All it does is hurt, and we have enough of that in our lives without anyone adding to it.Oh. And by the way. I just heard the other day that perhaps, oh never mind it probably is'nt true. And another thing WORLD DOMINATION IS STEWIE'S.
AMEN GIRL! And it still surprises me that gossip from 15 years ago can still surface today. No one in a small town is allowed to move on from a bad choice made when they were young. Sad thing is the rumor mill was revisited by none other than our own faithful police force. Way to go! If you don't have anything better to do then sit around and gossip about people, I expect our crime rate will go up because you are just too busy running your mouth and not chasing the bad guys.
Let me rephrase that...it is one or two members of a Greene County police force NOT the entire force. Just remember the words you speak can destroy good relationships; hopefully the information you decide to share with others was worth someone losing someone they love. I certainly hope that you are living a spotless and perfect life, because what comes around goes around.
Sounds like more gossip to me. If you let the rumors and gossip get to you, you're just adding fuel to the fire. Don't warrant a response, rise above it. If they're gonna gossip, Hang 'em!
I am glad I don't live down there anymore if it is that easy to get something started - heck even my visits may start some talking,,, Just let me sneak in and out of the county.
I still miss Greene County sooo much.
people in small towns use thier small minds to try to riun HONEST SMALL TOWN FOLK'S LIVES. I SUGGEST TO EACH THIER OWN...THOSE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULDN'T THROW STONES..IN THIS CASE bolders..EVRYONE HAS SKELETONS IN THIER CLOSETS... SO DON'T GE5 CAUGHT W/ YOUR CLOSET DOOR OPEN!!
