Vote for Something

Today's the day that Hoosiers get an opportunity to make their voice heard in the presidential primary.
And today's also the day that our voice counts. Or so they say. Many people are sick and tired of the on-going Obama Clinton saga and will be relieved when the whole presidential debacle is over. Count me in on that one. Now let's go back to a voice that counts. After the 2000 Bush/Gore presidential election I'll never truly have faith in the system. When a candidate can win by the popular vote and not the electoral vote just whose voice are we hearing? Not mine and not yours. Democracy...Shamocracy... Now, don't get me wrong. I will cast my vote. But, only because I have faith in the fact that my vote counts on the local level. But, how much longer will local government exist? Not much if you have taken a long look at House Bill 1001. Back to the presidential issue.... We need a leader who leads not one pretending to lead by only following the footsteps made before him. A leader who does things her own way. One with a vision. Give me someone who believes that feeding the poor is more valuable than starting a war. Give me someone who believes that justice and equality for all refers to all Americans not just those who can afford to buy some. Give me American values not Patriot Act 2, 3 and 4. Give me a leader who sees past the divisions created by fear such as race, religion, sex and class. Give me someone who understands that we are all citizens of the Earth. Give me a reason to listen. Give me faith. Give me hope. And give me peace of mind and of Earth. Just don't give me history repeating itself. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Psst...typo for the Bush/Gore election.
Yeah, good luck getting a President with those kind of good qualities. We had a couple that were running, but they've already been tossed out :(
The best we can hope for now is the lesser of the evils.
"Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos."
Clinton lost the popular vote in his first election, but, won the electoral vote. So, it works both ways. How soon people forget.
Clinton lost the popular vote in his first bid for election, but, won the electoral vote. This happens, but, you don't hear about that election anymore.
Nader '08!!!
Id like to vote for the world to sing in
perfect harmony...
Id like to vote for a one world goverment ran by environmentalists so we can can run up the price of everything so that poor people cant afford anything unless its bought for us by socialists.
Id like to vote to show how much I care and make people think like me...
Timberly,
I can see how you would lose faith in elections after the 2004 election.
I also can't believe that the Gore lawyers would legally suppress the vote of the deployed military due to lack of a zip code. That was over 200,000 soldiers whose votes were denied due to the greed of one man.
What a sad excuse for a candidate.
He has truly shown his colors by committing fraud in his movie by showing an ice shelf that supposedly was collapsing (it has been proven to be a styrofoam model created to prove his point).
Over eighty percent of his Nobel winning scam has been proven false and he keeps him in his humble private planes and his estates. He says it is all OK though because he can buy carbon credits (another scam).
It's time for America to come up with at least one credible candidate out of 3oo million people.
Greene County Patriot: Why did Gore's lawyers surpress the military votes? I don't remember that part. It could be true, if you remember that but it doesn't make sense when you say, "due to the greed of one man." He lost so why would'nt he have wanted every vote count? I thought he was trying to get all the votes counted then recounted? I lived in Florida during that whole mess. Talk about loosing faith in the election system.
Corb300,
The final popular vote for the 1992 presidential election was: Clinton 44,909,806, Bush 39,104,550.
Since all eyes are on Indiana today, let's hope we don't have any hanging chads...
(Chris) Corb300, why did you say Clinton lost the popular vote (twice), then proceed to probe yourself wrong?
GCP, you can say whatever you like about Al Gore, but Bush is still the worst president we have ever had. Period.
Dang. You can't spell check a word that is a word.
hmm... probing... hanging chads...
This is getting too adult for me. I'm out!
Your forgot the following:
Give me a tree to hug...unless I need a house or deck built. Then cut that sucker down.
Give me a President with vision who does things his own way...unless it's George W. I don't like his vision.
Let us feed the poor... and why not? Our money supply is unlimited and our guilt is bottomless.
Give me American Values, not another Patriot Act...unless some terrorist blows up someone close to me, then I'll cry "Why didn't you do more to stop them?"
Give me that whole "Citizens of the Earth thing"...and while your at it, give an illegal my job for half of what I'm getting, give everyone nukes, give all our secrets to the New York Times, give tax rebates to people who don't actually pay taxes, and give every tree in the forest a great big hug.
Give me a break.
It's futile to argue politics in a forum such as this. As it is in many, if not all.
I've serious issues with each of the three, and voted Obama today.
Contrary to selective popular belief, Republicans don't enjoy sacrificing soldiers, and Democrats don't enjoy killing babies.
It's not that cut and dry, folks.
It's unfortunate that our political system has come to this, and that our media propagates this binary vision.
We have our candidates, and they have our votes.
I hope for the best.
I've been wrong before.
Al Gore repressed the military votes because they are overwhelmingly Republican. He only wanted to count the votes that were for him.
Simple enough.
Say what you will about President Bush, but I thank God for his Constitutional priority to protect and defend the USA. I don't remember one domestic attack since 9/11, do you?
Despite your lack of knowledge, Jimmy Carter was one of the greatest disgraces (and still is) our country has ever tolerated.
The Iranians knew it and gave up the hostages two hours after Reagan was elected.
Maybe you weren't born yet or maybe you were a banker raking in the 17% home mortgage rates or maybe you were waiting in line for rationed gasoline and missed the news.
Let's all vote for a candidate with real character like Obama.
He:
Won't salute the American flag.
Won't disavow his lousy pastor until it is expediant to do so.
Won't vote for a Constitutionalist Supreme Court Justice (voted against judges Alito and Roberts).
Won't allow drilling in ANWAR, off the coasts of Florida or California or nuclear power plants to be built(voted against President Bushes' recomendations 7 times).
Won't tell his wife to shut up (after she said she has not been proud of America her whole adult life).
Will bankrupt America with his socialist plans of health care, education and other irresponsible ramblings.
Has been endorsed by the leaders of Iran and Hamas as their favorite choice to be America's president.
Has voted for partial birth abortion.
and I could go on, but won't because he is boring me.
Some food for thought:
nobody spends millions to get elected to a job that pays thousands unless there are under the table deals.
get rid of the electoral and have the popular vote, maybe then Indiana will count more than once every 40yrs
make everyone write a check to the government every pay period instead of auto pay deduction
have the general election April 16th
GarthHudson:
Thanks for the best post so far!
I must admit that I haven't been proud of the USA or even to being a citizen for quite some time. What is there to be proud of?
Give me Jimmy Carter over Bush any day. At least he didn't knowingly and purposely violate the constitution and laws of this country.
Bush/Cheney '08 -- The law hasn't stopped
us yet!
Well, Carter did help start some of the problems we currently have in Iran though.
If we are looking for presidents to look up to as models for our democracy, I would have to choose Thomas Jefferson.
It's a shame I couldn't say Jefferson Davis. Even though there was still the problem with slavery, the Confederate States of America had some better ideas in the constitution.
I truly believe we need less federal government.
I am thinking about moving to Vermont.
US out of VT!!!
hoorah for the bonnie blue flag!
